First Edition. Originally published as an introduction to the author's life of George Washington. Full leather. 8vo. 486 pages including the appendix, Brown calf leather binding with black leather title label on the spine, with marbled endpapers and marbled page edges. Ownership stamp of Samuel Van Vechten on the upper Title Page. Leather is scuffed on the covers, worn along the spine edges, with some cracks, and chipping to the spine and spine label. The lower spine label is missing. Scattered light foxing and some creasing to the last few pages.
