A very good copy of the 1905 New York & London first American edition of RIP VAN WINKLE by Washington Irving, illustrated by Arthur Rackham and published by Doubleday, Page & Co. and William Heinmann. 4to. 7 3/4" x 10" - 57 pages of text followed by 51 illustrated plates by Rackham. Publishers' green cloth boards with gilt stamped titles and decoration to the front and spine. Plates with captioned overlays all present. New cloth spine with the original pasted down. Light edgewear with corners bumped and rubbed and a bit of fading to the title on the upper spine. Foxing and toning to half-title and title pages and intermittent throughout. A bookplate with an October 1905 date on the lower front pastedown and the previous owner has made numbered pencil notations within the text that correspond to the Rackham plates. Overall, a nice copy of this 1905 Washington Irving classic with the Arthur Rackham illustrations.
