An important 1952 Association copy and wedding gift inscribed, signed and dated to his newly wed son Peter (also known as William) and daughter-in-law Peg. A long heartfelt inscription from the three-time Pulitzer Prize winning poet graces the front flyleaf; "For Peter and Peg from the author of one of them & of this. With love and high hope and such pride as a man can be permitted to have in his works and toward them. Archibald MacLeish - December 1953." This is the Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston first edition with 1952 on the title page and copyright dates through 1952. Lacking the dust jacket. 8vo. 407 pages - Publishers' black over blue cloth binding with titles stamped in silver on the spine and with the authors initials AM boldly blocked in silver on the front cover. Wear to edges, corners bumped and rubbed, spine tips softened with a bit of fraying and some toning/sunning to the cloth edges. Overall, a very good copy of the book that would go on to win the 1953 Pulitzer Prize For the best volume of verse published during the year by an American author.
