In 1941 at the age of 78 Connie Mack was a true baseball legend!  He had been in baseball for over half a century, as a player, a manager, winning nine pennants and five World Series!

This wonderful collection takes us through the 1941 Philidelphia Athletics baseball season from Spring Training in March with Connie's handwritten letter discussing his optimism for the coming season, through December, when Mack trades away his star player Wally Moses to his former player and now manager of the Chicago White Sox, Jimmy Dykes.

1. Two-page ALS signed “Con,” 8.5 x 11, Hotel Angelina Letterhead (The Athletics would play the Cubs that afternoon at Anaheim's La Palma Park.) a detailed handwritten letter to his friend Jack dated March 18th, in part: "Moses' car turned over three times Simmons did not get a scratch, but Moses had just the kind of accident that cannot be explained by me, but it affects his arm, the throwing one - will probably be ok in time. (Simmons, a future Hall of Famer, was unhurt in the accident, but Moses would miss the first month of the season.) We can go places if Johnson and Moses play their game. Our pitching not so bad - Babich, Knott, Potter, Berkman and Ferrick look very good. Our pitching looked better than the Cubs. Am pleased to know that Joe Paparella has his contract. Will look to see you and Ruth at our opening day - Con." In very good condition with two vertical and a horizontal fold, light edgewear with a crease to the upper left corners and several small staple pin holes at the top.
