Description: Eugene O'Neill's first book. First edition, first issue, consisting of 1000 copies; only one edition was ever printed. This copy titled, American Dramatist Series Thirst and other One Act Plays was one of a small first print run, and O'neill's father fronted the $450 printing costs. The book was not a commercial success and few copies have survived to this day. 12mo 168pp, publishers original cloth backed boards with  ivory printed paper labels to front and spine. Two small bookplates to the front free endpaper including the bookplate of The Everyman Theatre, Ltd. (London) along with a pencil notation on the Content Page reading; "Interesting, but not  up to his others. None suitable for Everyman." Condition: Light wear to edges and corners with a few chips to the paper and a bump to the lower back cover. Some foxing and browning to the backstrip with a small chip to the spine label. Toning to the endpapers with a little adhesive showing at the gutters of the front endpaper. The book, lacking the rare dust jacket is now protected in a fine red cloth chemise and custom crimson 1/2 Morocco slipcase with some rubbing to the leather and a few small chips to the cloth. In general a better than usual and very collectible copy of this scarce item.
