CONDITION: Here is a wonderfully restored and nicely preserved piece of New Hampshire state history. A very good copy of the 1844 Final Report on the Geology and Mineralogy of the State of New Hampshire complete with 8 plates, 7 tinted, 1 chromolithographed and  2 hand-colored folding plates of geological sections, along with a folding geological map of the State (18"x 30") each bound in at back of book. This book is boldly inscribed on the front endpaper by the books Publisher and former New Hampshire Governor Nathaniel A. Baker.  It is inscribed to my Great Great Grandfather and prominent Concord, New Hampshire Universalist minister, the Reverend Thompson Barron, dated October 6, 1847. The book features eight full page J.D. Whitney illustrations (some appear to be hand colored) including "The Old Man of the Mountain," "Dixfield Notch" and "Mount Monadnock." Restoration includes a beautiful calf leather spine with five raised bands and gilt stamped print along with resewing and tightening of the signatures. The delicate paper boards show wear to the edges and corners, heavy toning and foxing throughout, especially at the endpapers. Maps and illustrations show some creasing, edge wear and a few closed tears, but overall the book is in excellent condition.

*Nathaniel B. Baker was a former Governor of New Hampshire, a co-owner of a Democratic newspaper, the New Hampshire Patriot and a co-owner of the printing firm Carroll & Baker who printed this book.
