A very good or better copy of the 1956 first edition of 'MacArthur His Rendezvous with History' written by his friend General Courtney Whitney and published by Alfred A. Knopf in New York. A second printing in a very good, unclipped dust jacket inscribed by Whitney and signed by General Douglas MacArthur himself on the blank preliminary page. The book covers the years 1941 -1951 in MacArthur's amazing career including several sensational revelations never revealed until the book was published. General Whitney was a close and trusted member of MacArthur's staff during World War II and would go on to become his personal secretary after he was relieved of his command in Korea. Book Condition: 8vo. 547 pages plus the index - publishers' cloth boards stamped in blind on the front with gilt stamped titles to the spine and topstain. Softening to the lower spine tip and a small bump to the lower back cover. A gift inscription dated November 1998 on the front flyleaf. The dust jacket is unclipped with the $6.75 price. Light edgewear includes some rubbing to the photo on the front cover, light wear along the gutter of the lower spine and some toning to the rear fold and along the upper rear cover.
 
Provenance - Dr. Howard Jones - a pioneer in reproduction medicine. Whitney inscribes the book to him, "with appreciation and warm personal regards." In 1998 William Armstrong Oats, Jr., a founding partner of New England Investment Management in Boston gifts this book to his friend Duncan Mathieu McFarland, the former Chairman and CEO of Wellington Management Company.
