Kenneth Roberts Typed Letter Signed: An interesting and quite humorous typed letter signed by Pulitzer Prize-winning, Maine historical novelist and a former marine Captain Kenneth Roberts on Nassau, Bahamas real estate firm H.G. Christie letterhead and dated February 11, 1947. 8 1/2" x 11" on delicate rag paper with the original stamped envelope 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" post marked from the Bahamas with Roberts Kennebunk, Maine return address on the rear flap. Roberts writes to a reader from Paterson, New Jersey about a past problem getting his publisher to correct a mistake after numerous requests, and why Paterson is spelled with one "t". In part it reads, "In contemplating what I have written, I find myself a trifle confused; but perhaps it will explain something to you that I don't quite understand myself. With all good wishes I am, very sincerely yours, Kenneth Roberts". In near fine condition with 2 vertical folds and light edgewear. The envelope is very good with a bit of soiling and some creasing along the left edge.
Book Description: Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran & Co, a very good June 25, 1937, stated First trade Edition with the misprint point for a first printing: Pape for Papa on p. 430, line 20. Housed in a very good first state dust jacket with the $2.75 price clipped at the corners and with the 899-36 code on the front flap. Condition: Octavo (8-9"). 709 pages. Publishers' green cloth boards with portrait decoration stamped in blind to the front board and gilt titles and decoration to the spine, top stain and map endpapers. Tips show shelf wear with the bottom tip of the first cover worn to the board. Minor scuffing to the cloth boards and softening to the spine ends. Front and rear pastedowns have toning as is usual from the glue along the gutter edges. Hinges are a bit loose. The dust jacket is still in very good condition with some foxing and toning, light edgewear and chipping at the fold and spine ends. A few scrapes to the paper on the front cover, sunning to the spine and toning along the flap folds. Overall, a very good copy of this increasingly scarce first printing of the trade edition of the Kenneth Roberts classic.
