A wonderful and near fine copy of the 1925 First Edition of "Poor Cecco" with illustrations by Arthur Rackham in a scarce unclipped dust jacket with the $3.00 net price. Beautifully presented in a blue cloth chemise and matching cloth slipcase with leather spine in five raised bands with gilt titles. Amazing provenance includes a three-page typed signed letter and manuscript third page from the author's husband Francesco Bianco. Dated January 23rd, 1926, it reads in part; "Dear Mrs. Harris, my friend Mrs. Errol Kerr, at whose house I dined this evening, has asked me to send you, with her compliments, a copy of the first edition of POOR CECCO, my wife's latest Book." He goes on to discuss several of his wife's published works including a lengthy description of "THE VELVETEEN RABBIT." Page three is written in hand, and he talks about what he calls; "The best edition of "Poor Cecco" is a de Luxe Edition of 105 numbered copies, signed by the author, printed on large deckle edge paper and bound in half vellum, cased. The price is $25.00. Very few people know of this edition." Condition: 4to. 9 3/4" x 7 1/2", 175pp. publisher's blue cloth boards stamped in gilt. Light edgewear with softening to spine ends and some foxing to outer page edges. Some offsetting and toning to the endpapers, foxing to a few interior pages and the previous owner's small bookplate affixed to the front flyleaf. The rare dust jacket is chipped with some loss, a bit of toning and a few closed tears. The three-page letter on the Bianco stationery measures 6"x9" with light toning, a small chip to the lower left edge of page one and a small paper clip to the upper left corner. Overall, a very nice copy, and perfect addition to your collection of either Margery Williams "Bianco" or Arthur Rackham.
