A very good copy of the 1928 so called (Second Edition, Limited) of West Running Brook. Number 58 of one thousand copies printed in the same year as the first trade edition by the same publisher, but with an entirely different setting and format with different pagination. It features the decorative paper covered boards in the Maple leaf pattern backed with the dark olive-green fine linen cloth with the spine lettered in gilt. Top edge trimmed in gilt, with the other edges uncut. (Crane A10.1) What sets this copy apart aside from the Frost signature is the tissue-guarded Frontispiece and three woodcut illustrations tipped in and signed in pencil by the artist, J.J. Lankes. 8vo. 58 pages - Light edgewear with a small bump to the upper corners, a light crease along the cloth backstrip and a small scrape to the paper on the back boards. The interior is in nice condition with a neat Ex-Libris bookplate of "Schubert" affixed to the front pastedown. This copy is lacking the rare glassine cover but includes the original gray paper slipcase in good condition, showing a dampstain along the lower edges and nicely repaired using Japanese Tissue paper and retaining the original paper spine label.

* Inserted at the back of the book are two 1933 first editions of Robert Frost's poem "The Lone Striker" in the original envelopes. Each in near fine condition in very good matching envelopes. Printed in a small quantity of 2000 and titled "Number Eight of the Borzoi Chap Books" published by Alfred Knopf in New York and sold for 25 cents each.
