Description: A very good copy of the 1909 McClurg 1st Edition, and quite scarce in any condition. First printing with "Published June 1909" on the Copyright page. This Zane Grey Title is much sought-after by both Zane Grey and Baseball Fiction collectors. Grey is perhaps best know for his Westerns and Hunting and Fishing Stories, but in his college years at the University of Pennsylvania, Grey was a scholarship baseball player and went on to play with several semi-pro teams. He was well prepared to write this exciting juvenile baseball novel and would follow it up with both The Young Pitcher and The Redheaded Outfield and Other Baseball Stories. Condition: 8vo. 310pp. Bound in green pictorial cloth with black and white print and decoration. Some light rubbing to the white paint on the front boards. Wear to edges, corners bumped, fraying to spine ends, foxing to a few preliminary pages and a bit of a spine lean. Five interior black and white illustrations by H.S. DeLay. The interior is clean and unmarked. Overall a very good copy of this elusive Zane Grey title.
